Ive just strung my 1st mountain banjo as designed from the instructions in Foxfire 3. Its made from an old piano that i chopped up (it was beyond repair) I think its poplar with a Walnut veneer. Ive stained the poplar bit walnut. Its looking pretty sweet but those Nylgut strings are taking a while to settle down. I'll be getting a picture of it on the site in the new year.
Have a great Christmas.
In my old wooden cabin up in the hills of south east London I make banjos, canjos, cigarbox guitars and other things that go twang. Every instrument is fully hand made in the traditional way with a minimal use of power tools and usually using reclaimed timber (that way i can use exotic hard woods and sleep well at night). So if you are interested in buying a high quality unique instrument keep checking here or contact me if you would like to commission something. flatfootjohnny@hotmail.com

Welcome to the Flatfoot Johnny blog. This is where I will upload fascinating information about the new instruments that I'm making, places that I might be appearing (craft markets etc), ranting and general goings on.
I might even do the odd photo journal of works in progress.
Happy twanging...Flatfoot Johnny x
